Monday night was reserved for my gurl Cassey. We agreed to meet up for dinner at Portico in Serendra. Originally, it was supposed to have been lunch, but due to conflicts in her sched during the earlier part of the day, after-office was our only option. We had a Chicken Fusilli (Spiral pasta in pesto topped with bite-size chicken strips, with serving size good for sharing by two.), Mixed Grill (Kebab, Portico-style, with beef tenderloin, chorizo, and pork tenderloin in a skewer, served with garlic sauce and veggie fried rice.), and Strawberry-Melon fruit shake duo (served in a mini-pitcher that’s good enough for two.). By the end of our meal, we were both so full, not just because of the good food, but also because of all the kwentuhan and catching up with whatever’s up in each others’ lives as well as those of friends (and not-so-friends).

It was one of those really humid saturday afternoon, and while me and a friend are more than an hour early for the movie which we were supposed to see, suggested we grab something cold to do with the humid weather in the metro, say an ice cream. Good thing I saw an Italian ice cream parlour nearby and we checked out the place. Gelatone by Pagliacci is located right across Grappa’s in Greenbelt 3. It’s a quaint place and good enough for some quite talk or if you would like pasta to go with your gelato. (They serve a couple of pasta dishes as well, with servings good enough to be shared by two.) We were both not that hungry (Plus, we were looking forward to a bucket of popcorn at the movies later on!) so we just ordered a scoopful of gelato, strawberry for me and coffee almond for him. *Sigh* Gelato just never disappoints my palate.

Ever since the first time I had a taste of Italianni’s with my mom 2 years ago, I knew then that I’ll be coming back to the place over and over again, not just for the good Italian food, but for the total experience each visit brings. ^_^

My personal favourites are the Angel Hair Pomodoro, Fettuccine Alfredo, Herb Roasted Chicken, and the Tuscan Beef Tenderloin. Oh yeah, I also dig their fruit shakes. It’s also a good place to have lunch or dinner with my folks and friends, and we usually stay longer than we intend to because it’s a nice place to have plenty of good conversations and hearty laughs. As for the price, the entire experience – good Italian food, the service, and the company – are all worth every penny. ^_^

“You have to try their Paella, it’s sooo good talaga!”

This was what my officemates were telling when we were talking about having a Friday-night dinner at Mom and Tina’s in Pasig. I was skeptical (and a bit hesitant) at first because I couldn’t see the point of going through all the fuss and having to travel way up north of Manila when there are so many other really good restos within the area of Makati. (Besides, it would be much closer to our office. ^_^) And what’s with their Paella anyway?

When we got to the place around 8:00 p.m. (Our reservation was not until 8:30 that evening), I instantly understood why people (families and pairs alike) have been flocking in and out of the place. One word that best describes Mom and Tina’s is ‘cozy’. Yep, it’s got the homelike feel – the warm lights, homey decors, and the mouth-watering pastries displayed in their bakeshop (I swore I’d buy myself a boxful by the end of the night). We ordered Paella, Meat Spaghetti, and some mashed potato and mixed vegetables on the side. Paella was superb!!! For dessert, we ordered 1 cup each of the Mango, Strawberry, and Caramel trifle, plus another cup of White Toblerone Torte. We were so full and satisfied by the end of our meal. By the end of the night, I ended up buying two boxfuls of their cupcakes. Since then, Mom and Tina’s has become a favorite when me and my mom would crave for delicious Paella. SARAP! ^_^

Krispy Kreme serves the most perky donuts in town... I just love their White Choco Mint!!! And of course, the classic glazed will always be an all-time fave! I haven't tried their coffee, though. ^_^

    After-Party Munch

During times when I’d go clubbing with my girls, Embassy has always been a non-negotiable. We’d stay up until the break of dawn in the Fort Strip, say until 5 a.m., and just when we’re ready to call it a night, our hunger pangs get the best of us. (Hmmm… it must’ve been because of all the dancing, hahaha!) That’s the time a stop by Café Teria best comes in handy.

Two words: BIG servings! I’ve tried all their quesadillas and I liked all of them. Once, I remember having ordered their Homemade Pork Tocino while my girl ordered Beef Tapa. When our orders were served on the table, we looked at each other [probably] thinking; “Shucks, where’s Mike when you need a guy’s big appetite to finish this up?” It was good, and the serving can compensate for the price you’re gonna pay for your meal. As far as the taste goes, it was considerably ok, though the Pork Tocino could use a little more Pinoy taste. I’ve also tried their fries and their Country Garden Omelet. I liked them so far. Oh yeah, I also love their grape shake, while my friend is a big fan of their blueberry cheesecake. =)

    A Taste of Jake's Adobo

I was waiting for a friend over at SM Mall of Asia where we’re supposed to get together for lunch, go see a movie, and then probably do a bit of shopping on the side. I arrived first so I scouted for a good waiting place to rest my lazy feet. I spotted KKK and since there were still a few people inside with lots of space (It was only 10:30 a.m. so people haven’t been piling up to have lunch yet.) I went inside, informed the waiter that I’d probably order something later on, and then sent an SMS to my friend informing her where I was. After a few minutes she arrived and we decided to have an early lunch. Problem was, we couldn’t decide what to eat. I then noticed the poster on top from where I was sitting that said “Adobo ni Jake Espesyal”. My friend and I looked at each other and smiled. KKK it is!

We ordered Adobo ni Jake, Sisig Pampanga, and Baked Tahong coupled with rice. The food was very Pinoy, and the adobo was worth the poster and all. Sarap! It’s the kind of like a home-cooked meal experience. In a matter of minutes, people (mostly families that come in groups of 5 and up) started coming in and calling for their order to be taken. We both ordered Halo-halo and stayed for another hour, just talking and savoring another hearty meal. As for the price, it’s really affordable and suits the budget pretty well. Overall, KKK was a nice Pinoy gastronomic experience.

Cav is one of those really nice places where you can just hang out with friends and have quiet conversations while enjoying a tall glass of wine (and yes, the wine vendo was a lot of fun! ^_^). I've been there just once but my mom and I are thinking of dropping by again one of these days.

    So far, it's a five-star for me. =)

    Mangan Tamu!

My mom hails from Tarlac and Pampanga, and I literally grew up on Filipino dishes cooked with a Kapampangan twist. That's why whenever the family is out on some malling spree in Glorietta, we'd always drop by Mangan for lunch or merienda.

For lunch, my family's favorite is their Sarsiadong Tilapia and Sinigang na Ulo ng Salmon in Miso, coupled with Tinapa Rice. For snacks, it's always a choice between Mangan's signature bibingka with quezo de bola and salted eggs or puto bumbong that comes with grated coconut.

What I like best about the place is that it has a quaint modern Filipinized setting that showcases portraits of Dolphy and the likes of Cory Aquino hanging by Mangan's walls. Nevermind that their branch in Glorietta is quite small; the food is simply worth it! ^_^

    Mangan tamu! ^_^

    A Taste of Cuba

On dull Friday nights after work, it's nice to have some chillax at Cafe Havana in Greenbelt 3 (just right across Starbucks). If you're up for some Mexican and Cuban dishes plus drinks/cocktails on the side, then Cafe Havana is your place.

It's been a month since the last time I've been to the place. We ordered Black Bean Hummus (a weird looking dip that's basically Cuban and tastes differently good) coupled with Mariquitas de Platanos (crispy banana slices). We also had Pepper Steak Hemingway that's a treat for those who's into spicy foods like moi. ^_^ Their serving of rice is BIG so ladies, you might wanna think twice on going for your second bowl (that is, if you're on a diet! hahaha!). Finally, we had Mojito and a couple of beers for some more post-meal chillaxin'.

The price? Well, just a 'lil bit pricey but the food is all worth it. As for the service, we dined al fresco that time so the waitress couldn't quite hear our order because of the loud music playing but I guess it was ok.
