- Ambiance vs. Food
- Cafe Juanita, Pasig

I had dinner at Cafe Juanita just an hour ago and I must say that its interiors charmed me. It is quaint, quaint, quaint --- like an eccentric aunt's boudoir or an aging fortune teller's salon. However, since it is a restaurant now (if memory serves me right, it started as a gallery/curio shop) I should give my eight pesos' (2 cents at current exchange rate) worth on its food and service. I had "Laguna Fish" aka crunchy fried tilapia on a bed of crispy fried noodles with diced tomatoes and onions on the side as dip. The presentation was impressive --- it looked like a sculpture--- but frankly, the texture was redundant for me: too crunchy! Maybe it was the room's cold temperature or maybe it took a while for me to dig in but spearing and eating the fish proved to be a challenge. Greens on the side or sauce to drizzle would have toned down the crunchiness.Rating

It was a Saturday night and the place was packed so it took a while to get the waiter's attention despite the bell provided for such purpose. How do waiters know which table rang for service? :-)
I would like to try their specialties, the kare-kare and toffee pudding. I'll give Juanita another chance... perhaps on a less hectic day . - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus
