Celebrated wife's birthday there

Me and wife decided to try it out last Friday, June 15, 2012. We ordered the full course set meal.

Food was no less than great. From the appetiser all the way to the dessert. I ordered the steak option, with cheese and win pairing. Appetisers were really fantastic, the scallops and the lobster sort of already filled us up that by the time I got to the main course, I could hardly eat half of it.

Ambience is perfect for a quiet fine dining. This is the main reason why we picked this place.

The service if very good. They explained the food very well and we were given enough attention all throughout.

We ended up with a bill of approx PHP 7,200. I understand this maybe quite pricey for many but for me I do not mind paying this much as long as we enjoy the food and no hassle.

Something wrong with the chef's tastebuds?

For some reason, the lamb dish and the spaghetti we ordered were too salty. I wish I had eaten instead at the Japanese restaurant beside this pretentious place.

I had the grilled Australian lamb chops and pan roasted lamb loin for the main.I had a very salty dinner, even though we had time to "cleanse our palettes".

To me, the French Laundry's opening menu was way ahead of Aubergine's menu today. Its too "old school" although the flavors are ok. Wait staff is too stiff but get the job done. I guess i would visit again (if someone else was paying for it)

Sensory Delight

Some people exaggerate when they say certain dining experiences are better than sex. Dining at Aubergine makes you think about sex, and sunsets, and sand on your feet, and Puccini's when you're sad, and chocolate when you're mad, and everything that's sensual, that feels good, that's sublime and spectacular at the same time. Yes, it is that good.

Forgive my over-raving. I really loved dining at Aubergine. The hole in my husband's pocket might prevent us from doing that real soon, but I highly recommend this resto.

Service is fawning. Food is excellent. I enjoyed the Trio of Beef, Veal, and Foie Gras and loved the Baked Oysters. I'm not impressed with the wine list we got.

Featured in Tatler's Best Restaurants, Aubergine has an extraordinary taste of dishes. Foie Gras with Port wine has always been my favorite appetizer, it has that smell that will tell you to keep ordering it. When it comes to meat I recommend the Roasted Wagyu, it aslo comes with the Foie Gras. For those of you who's desperate for Omega-3, go try the Norwegian Salmon.

First timers will have a difficult time finding the place, and a worse time locating the underground parking. (Ask a security guard.)

If you can get past the location, the food is delicious, from the soup to the macaroons. I had the Oven-Roasted Chicken Breast which was stuffed with ricotta and sun-dried tomatoes, served with seared duck foie gras, braised shallots with balsamic reduction and pilaf-parmesan timbale. Nothing was left on my plate.

Unfortunately, I did not like the atmosphere. Instances of informality seemed oddly out of place.

By the way, the only eggplant I noticed in the place was the eggplant color of the waiters' vests.

Still a work in progress

Aubergine is a relatively new restaurant with a very promising pedigree. Based on my two visits, I'd say that their entrees are all pretty good but, their appetizers and desserts still needs improvement. Presentation is always pretty but, lacks the 'yummy' factor. Some of their versions of the classics - like for example, carpaccio appetizer and apple tarte tartin dessert fails to deliver. I concur too that they have a pretty good wine selection and look forward to coming back to check their degustation menu sometime soon.
