My friends and I went to Relish on a Friday evening. The place is at just walking distance from our office, and the buy-2-take-1 cocktails promo was enticing, so we decided to try it out. We were in for a very pleasant surprise indeed.

The first thing we noticed as we entered was the tasteful gray interiors, spruced with fresh green accessories. Simple louver-type dividers do a good job of de-cluttering the dining area by visually dividing the dining area while maintaining the open plan. Two full-mirrored columns give the illusion of space, and the mirrored portions of the wall adds even more to that. There was a small corner gray wall painted/decal-ed in black with stylized trees. The overall effect was elegant and relaxing.

The menu was enticing, although not extensive. We had two orders of the cream dory with lemon and garlic, and the hickory smoked pork belly. The main dishes came with a choice of herb buttered rice, a salad, or mashed potatoes.

For the two cream dorys, we ordered one with rice and one with salad, but when the orders arrived, both fish fillets came with rice. I decided not to say anything (as i was already famished), and went on to trying it out.

The mix-up was a blessing in disguise, as the rice was very fragrant, buttery without being too greasy. We could taste bits of mushroom with the rice too. The cream dory portions were generous, and the lemony cream perfectly balanced. Not to exaggerate, but i couldn't help but smile with satisfaction as i took bites of my dinner.

The hickory smoked BBQ pork belly was a melt-in-your-mouth concoction of juicy pork and hickory glaze. The pork belly was very tender, and was grilled evenly. The sauce brought back memories of Summer County Ribfests, where Southern US states would showcase their best ribs and hickory sauces. Very authentic.

We ordered two sets of 2-for-1 cocktails: Grape martini (a total winner, with muddled fresh grapes!), Mango daiquiri and mango martini, mojito, and pineapple-lychee-mint daiquiri. The cordial waiters were very prompt in asking if we wanted the next set of drinks to be delivered, just as we were finishing the first set. On the second set of drinks, however, two mango martinis arrived, instead of a daquiri and a martini. Again, I didn't mind the mix-up because the drinks looked so good. They used fresh, sweet mangoes, and the drink had just the right amount of "kick" to it.

Mint lovers will totally enjoy the mojito and the mint daiquiri. No scrimping on mint leaves here, that's for sure. Their mint daiquiri is a refreshing blend of sweetly tart pineapple, hints of lychee (not overpowering at all), and fresh muddle-blended mint. The mojito had the perfect balance of sour-sweet-mint and lime.

We savoured these gastronomic treats to the live tunes of Moise (mo-weez), a French Moroccan crossover-bossa-samba-reggae singer. It added a cheerful vibe to the whole evening.

We waited for Moise's second set, so we ordered (at regular price) another round of drinks --- this time, Long Island iced tea. The drink came in a really tall glass, around 8". This drink was definitely stronger than the others, and it lasted us til the rest of the night.

Overall, I would highly recommend the drinks. At regular price, they would be considered expensive, but the taste and quality is worth it. (I wish RElish would extend their cocktails promo til 7:30 or 8pm though...)

Food is excellent, and I am keen on trying the rest of the items in the menu, plus some dessert, of course. (i also saw a glass of mint iced tea on the other table that night, and it looked so thirst-quenching!)

Service is warm, attentive and very friendly. There were a few mix-ups with the food (even if they had asked and repeated the orders a few times)... but the food quality and courteousness compensated for that. If it weren't for the mix-ups, i would give five stars for service.

This is definitely a great intimate date place, and a good place to relax and have a few drinks and bites after work. (it is a bit expensive though, so i guess i'll reserve it for those extra stressful work nights. I rate this with 4 stars for value, just because it's quite expensive)

Moise plays on wed and fri nights btw :) A real hidden gem in makati -- highly recommended. Will definitely come back for more. (the chicken kabab is next on my list!)

Price:
P199 - cocktails (Buy 2 take 1, til 7pm)
P300-500 -main course
P75 - extra side dish (rice, salad, potato)
