With all the rave reviews about this restaurant, I honestly expected a LOT more from it. What i got instead was far from the down-to-earth, lutong bahay taste all Filipinos have come to know and love.Rating

You can't deny its wonderful interiors though, not to mention the superb ambiance- but that's basically it.
Definitely not worth the price at such small servings- their "gambas" (which was basically shrimp and garlic drenched in oil) was priced at around P300 for a tiny bowl with tiny shrimp! - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

I can't really blame Abe for the lack of stars for this review since we really weren't supposed to dine here for my birthday today. I simply forgot to place a reservation at Mamou (they were full) so we went to another restaurant that my family hasn't tried yet. I've been subconsciously trying to avoid Abe for a couple of reasons (1) the rave reviews make my expectations higher - which means that it would be so easy for Abe to fall down my scale, (2) and because I'm not a big fan of Filipino food unless I'm depressed and in need of comfort food.Rating

Abe was full when we got there, but didn't wait too long for a table. We got a pretty good spot, near the memorabilia section. After perusing the menu, we settled for some delicious sounding entrees,
1. Mais Rebosado - so-so taste. You can really taste the corn. Nothing to rave about.
2. Pastel de Lengua - has a weird taste, the tongue probably wasn't boiled and cleaned properly. The sauce had potential, until you eat another serving - that's when the flavor gets cloying.
3. Bringhe - dry. Nothing compared to my grandfather's recipe, according to my dad who barely touched it after tasting it.
4. Morcon - was more like embotido with its meatloaf-like texture. we were expecting a sheet of meat with other strips of ingredients (sausage, carrots, etc.) rolled inside it (something like a sushi but with meat as the nori wrapper. The texture was mushy along with the sauce, it was a total disappointment.
5. Lechon Cubano - the only redeeming factor of the entrees we ordered. Meat was soft and falling off the bone (or cartilage) and the skin was crispy. So crispy that it chipped off my molar.
6. Sugpo sa Alige ng Talangka - Out of Stock
7. Dalandan Shake & Green Mango Shake - REALLY GOOD STUFF. Or maybe I'm just looking for other redeeming factors up to now.
We had to rattle off what we ordered to the waiter around 4-5 times before he understood what we wanted and he was mumbling his responses to us. I mean, diners will know if a waiter is unsure of the food of the restaurant and if they're uncomfortable with what they're doing. It's one of my pet peeves when in a restaurant since service makes up a big chunk of the dining experience! When asked about the Mais Rebosado, what it was made up of, he answered, "Parang pancake." WTH. I did notice that he didn't have the ID tag that some of the waiters were wearing, which probably meant he was a trainee. Oh, we also had to remind him of the beverage list that he obviously forgot to give to us.
Another irritating thing is that they were out of sugpo already at that time. It was 1230pm. How the heck can they be out of sugpo already? And if this was already something that was an issue the day before, why didn't they rectify this problem? I had to replace it with Pastel de Lengua.
I have to agree with the other reviewer below that the acoustics of the place is simply HORRIBLE. They expect that there will be lots of people on Sunday lunch service and they didn't foresee that problem and found a way to fix that?
Hai, grabe. If the place wants to evoke certain memories of your childhood, it certainly didn't do that. Far from it. The only memories I'm taking from Abe would be the horrible service, the subpar food, my chipped molar (mustn't forget that), and the horrible - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

One Sunday evening, when we couldn't think of any new place to eat at Market Market, we remembered Abe.
We ordered three main meals, even though we were only two. We started off with the Lechon Cubano Style. I don't know if I am exaggerating but when I had my first bite of the lechon, I totally forgot the other dishes we ordered. My fork kept on going back to the crispy thin skin yet tender meat. It had that distinctive Cebu lechon taste. (Those who have eaten the original lechon from Cebu knows what I am talking about - No sarsa needed!) When I finally had enough of the lechon, my interest turned to the Mutton Adobo. If you like garlicky flavors, you will like it too. The Pork Lengua Asado is a good first-time-tried meal. But it is not something you will be looking forward to be eating again. We also had to order their famous Bamboo Rice, though pricey (you have to be prepared to shell out rice worth P220 good for two only), its something you would like to try at least once.
The next in our agenda was the ... Dessert. The waiter tried to make the Mango Jubillee an exotic dessert but it was nothing to be rejoiceful about. It is a simple vanilla ice-cream with mango balls. However, the Maja Blanca was a different story. My husband was right when he said we shouldn't leave without trying it. The Maja Blanca would satisfy the palate of both who does not like sweets and who had to eat something with the taste of sugar at the end of the meal. The texture was creamy and had the right blend of coconut milk and sugar, topped with crunchy pinipig. Although it was my husband's dessert, I couldn't help not dip my spoon in his plate, making my slice bigger each time.
When we went to Abe, we had no reservations and were sitted right away. We had a quiet and pleasant dinner. The waiters were always within our reach and we waited within the sensible time frame for our food to be served.
Since they are offering Filipino dishes, do not order the dish you think you can cook becuase their prices are on the high side. Personally, I find the price of Abe reasonable since they offer a twist of what would have been a regular Filipino cuisine. The servings of the per dish could also be shared by two to three people based on what we have tried.
If you are on a budget and would still like to try Abe, order the meat dishes which is good for sharing, cut out the dessert and drinks (P65 per softdrink). You'll be cutting out on the unnecessary pounds too. - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

i have to admit, the food is good BUT NOT THAT GOOD. meaning, it's NOT value for money. i mean P300 for fried plapla! P200 for pinakbet!
we had to wait for an hour or so to get in.. but..the service is good since the servers are very polite, albeit hassled.
the acoustics inside the resto was not good. everybody ws shouting so that they could be heard and the voices float in the air, echo and go back to you. ugh.
ate here twice (2 sets of friends, both wanting to try it), and both times, i left with a huge check and still hungry. - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

Bamboo Rice, it was great and unlike any that i have had before. the waiter recommended the Binukadkad na Plapla and i agree that it was very nice - taste and presentation. the Crispy Tadyang also was great. Chicken Supreme i guess you can say is not for everyone. the restaurant looks great although the staff is not very accommodating. i would like to come back and try the other dishes but its a real effort to get a table at convenient 7 or 8pm. - Was this review...? My friends wanted to treat me out for Pinoy food before I left the country and decided to have dinner at Abe. It was a weekday and so we were easily given a table. I was a bit disappointed with the food. I guess I was expecting something great since it's a Larry Cruz restaurant. Service was slow, but the staff were friendly. One of them even sang "O Sole Mio" for us.Rating

it took a lot of persuasion to convince my boss to consider Abe for our company lunch with the vice president from the us. there were fifty employees to be fed and the svp wanted to try filipino food. good thing my boss gave me the chance to show her the place and she instantly liked it. at the lunch everyone was pleased with the food. truly, abe does not disappoint. it's a must-try!Rating

food: everything we ordered was delicious! abe is from the same group that brought you Larry's, Cafe Adriatico, Cafe Havana, etc... food is expensive though. and food serving sizes are small. some were "tapas" sizes.
what's good: kare-kare. mmmmmmmm that ox tail just slips & slides & melts in your mouth like butter! one of the best kare-kares i've had.
fresh squid in ink. i normally don't eat this because it usually looks unappetizing (rubbery squid floating in a black gooey tar-like mess) but this dish in abe was superb. the squid was so tender and the sauce delectable! (pwedeng gawing ulam ang sauce, if you know what i mean!)
pastel the lengua. it was so good we ordered another round. pork binagoongan, my husband just gobbled this up. and from a previous visit, i remember their crispy tadyang was pretty good too. next time i'll order their crispy pata...
we ordered the bangus belly with guava sinigang - now this was a bit too exotic for my taste. initially when you see the soup, you'd expect a sinigang experience, but it's actually quite sweet and you can really taste the guava.
ambiance: poor acoustics so it's a bit noisy. but since it's fairly new and located in serendra, decor is stylish & modern.
the only drawback is, the service was a bit slow. although our server was capable, one could see she was a bit overwhelmed with all her guests' demands. i think this is the general sentiment about abe, great food but poor service.
but personally, i found the food so good, it kind of made up for the poor service. i'll still go back. cheers to abe!
