One proud Mama & Galileo Enotica .. By Aly Abaquin http://alyabaquin.blogspot.comRating

My mom and i like food and we share the taste of good food so when i was in manila and before i left for Saigon, Vietnam or Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) i dated my good old proud mama to Galileo enoteca ( phone number 534-4633 for reservations).
A wine cellar and italian resto in one. We started the diner with a freshly baked bread and red wine with cheese and cold cuts as appetizers. Galileo Enoteca's interiors are of a vintage wine cellar in brown reddish brick colors and the table and chairs in good old oak very hard and not good for seating long hours but the food is very Italian. You are transported to Italy and beside that Mandaluyong enclave as if the vineyards are right beside you and waiting for our Host to show the finest wine and grapes freshly picked at the vineyards and are stored in oak barrels below the bricks enclave... sort off.....
But the bricks and the venus mural gave me and my mom the feel of the Sopranos dining here...
Free diner and fine dining at that what a wonderful feeling to be bonding with your Proud Mama.... The food is exquisite and the spaghetti and penne is al dente and the red wine perfect... I shall return good food finds plus the finest cheese selection & great wine represents Galileo Enoteca.
Kudos to the friendly staff and very accomodating i wish they have soft chairs for the oldies...
But overall Galileo Enoteca proves that you have to date someone special to this very special place for that memorable once in your life experience. - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

I am an adventurous eater, where ever I hear something new food I will try it, I hear many things regarding this restaurant, we always eat out, eating in 5star hotel happened once in a while specially if one of my kids have to celebrate there bday so that is only for special occasion, imagine eating in 5 star buffet dinner is so expensive, when one of my friend ask, why do you eat in 5star hotel since we have a good restaurant that can meet your standard with much less price, one of the reasoned we all love to eat there because we can eat different kind of chess there so she suggest me to eat in Galileo Enoteca that I can eat different kind of chess with a fraction of price and you do not need to go to Italy to taste the real Italian food and one thing more they are also selling different king of noodles, chess, wine and cold cuts with reasonable price. come join us again on our next visit with them.Rating

- Hard to find, easy to love

Galileo enoteca was notorious for being hard to find. One had to go through the byzantine paths of mandaluyong to find this very out of the way place. One time I went there with my girlfriend's family, it caused a minor argument over directions between her father and her brother.Rating

But once you have found it, you will definitely say its worth it. Not only is the food good quality and authentic, but it is also plentiful! Get there special set meals which is a fantastic deal and more than worth the time to get there.
Service can be a bit slow though since some of the corners of the resto are out of the sight of the waiters, and some of the decor seemed a bit cheap (painted on) but overall, this is a resto very easy to love. And how can you not? With relatively inexpensive food (for what you pay) and excellent tasting delicacies, it is very much worth the difficulty of getting there. - Was this review...? - In the Rustic Cellar

This place reminds me a lot of the old wine cellars there were quite common among expats. The walls were line with a large array of bottles and food packages. It gives this place a less restrictive and a bit homey appeal. It's something like an old warehouse, not excatly the picture of pampered comfort a lot of people might be looking for. But if you're into the rustic feeling, this is a great place to be.Rating

The service here is great. The waiters and waitresses are more than willing to accomodate you and entertain most of your questions regarding the available selection. They won't hold back in giving you samples of your favorite cold cuts or cheese.
I'm not exactly an expert on wines but you can have your fill here whether you like white, red or sparklies.
Now if you're looking for creature comforts, like cushioned chairs and table cloths. The only thing you'll get here are the warm lights. It is cozy but not comfy.
So far this is the best place to go if you are looking for some cold cuts and cheese. And even though it tucked away in some hard to find nook, I find myself gravitating back to it. - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

- Romantic cavernous hideaway!

i say cavernous because when you enter galileo enoteca, you seem to be transported into an old wine collector's cellar where the lights are dim but caramel colored, textured dark red brick walls, low arches and walls upon walls of wine bottles.Rating

you really won't expect a romantic hideaway when you first see galileo. it's located in a street off shaw blvd. once you enter, there'll be a ref displaying an assortment of cheeses and hams. there are a lot of other great deli finds there, like infused olive oils (garlic, chili, etc...) and other italian deli staples like dry pasta.
deeper into the enoteca you are transported into a cozy and private world. there are little nooks and crannies where long wooden tables & benches are set-up where you & your friends (or secret lover!) can hangout over a wide selection of wines.
their food menu is limited, mostly paninis and pastas. you won't find grilled fish or steaks here. so don't come too hungry! most of the items on the menu are created to compliment the wines and not vice versa.
they have a set menu that changes regularly (if i'm not mistaken, daily?) for P400: you get a cheese & cold cuts sampler, a glass of wine, soup, pasta and tea/coffee after. food is good (not awesome but good enough) - ultimately i would come here for the ambiance and the wine.
i would go back to galileo. it's a great place to hangout especially if you are tired of going to places like serendra or greenhills promenade. - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus
