We had our lunch at one of my favorite restaurants CYMA. It's an authentic Mediterranean restaurant with a hint of flare. OPA! That's what they shout every time you order a flaming hot plate of cheese. The ambiance there is just wonderful and lovely. Even if we weren't given a seat inside the restaurant itself, they still made the dining experience real comfortable. Our server Justin was a real gentleman. Although he might not be the veteran you'd hope for, he was able to do the job right and a bit more.

Their famous Roka Salata salad was just to die for. This is what it means to die a thousand deaths. Arugula, sliced parmesan cheese, sun dried tomatoes and sweet crunchy walnuts are some of its main ingredients. Compliments to the chef as he was able to blend bitter, salty and sweet with a hint of crunch in one dish. There's no point dining at CYMA if you're not there to order this salad.

We also ordered their Japanese Eggplant Moussaka. I've got no clue how the Japanese got into the Mediterranean but this dish kills. It's a cross Mexican enchilada and an Italian lasagna. Covered with creamy cheese with a layer of Japanese eggplant and a final thick layer of ground beef cooked to perfection. It's funny to see the words ground beef and perfection all in one sentence but somehow CYMA made sense of it. Without anything to eat it with, we ordered a couple of pita breads to compliment this dish.

I highly recommend this place to anyone.

Cyma Shangri-la is responsible for my love-affair with this place and their food. I've eaten at their other locations but this one holds a special place in my heart as it was first.

The food is top-notch, tasty and delicious. Portions are from the satisfying to large scale. Flavors are clean, presentation is attractive and thoughtful. For main courses I like the pork and the lamb. Their gyros are good as are their fresh fish. Their hummus and tatziki (if i even spelled that right) is to die for. The salads are good, their roasted potatoes are divine. For dessert, get the flaming mango thing (make sure you aren't drinking water or eating or anything when it comes by because the OPA! tends to jolt people) and the chocolate dessert. In short, I haven't yet eaten anything at this place I didn't like. It's simply that good.

It gets pretty busy and there's long waits especially at dinner and on weekends. Service tends to suffer during busy hours which kinda dampens the meal experience but if these aspects don't matter to you, GO. Now. Get yourself Cyma-fied!

I've been hearing from my friends that Cyma is good so last Sunday, I made my family eat lunch there. It was just 11:30 and the place was almost full. We were attended immediately by our waiter, Neo, who was very patient in explaining to us the menu. He suggested to us some stuff and so we ordered spinach and artichoke fondue, Roka Salata, Chicken Souvlakia and Pastisado. The spinach and artichoke fondue was great, just the right taste, not too salty or anything. Roka Salata was also good, the walnut, I love. :) Chicken Souvlakia was such a surprise to me! I thought it was just plain chicken on a stick to be put on pita but when I tasted it, it's surprisingly very yummy! Even without the sauce! Pastisado was also great but I was already too full to savor the taste much. The service was also great. I really like their attentive waiters and they really serve with a smile. It's only rare that I get to like the service. I started craving for Cyma just the next day and I can't wait to go back!:) Cyma, Shangri-la Plaza Mall

Opa! I just love the food and the laid-back atmosphere. Cyma always leaves both vegetarians AND non-vegetarians immensely satisfied.

I must have at least one of the following every time I go there:
    -Tzatziki
    -Spinach and artichoke fondue
    -Roka pasta
    -Meatless moussaka

Service was great. Our server, i think his name was Ian, was very attentive. He made suggestions when we asked him to and asked us how our food was.

The food was great. Except that the salmon in the solomos angel hair..tastes a little too fishy. Would've preferred salmon that's marinated and cooked well.

Cyma is an interesting place of dining. It looks expensive and it is expensive. Unlike resto wanna-be's, Cyma offers a wide range of Greek, Medittaranean and fusion selections -- each a must-try. You can ask the wait staff for recommendations. They know their menu well. I settled for moussaka. My fave and one of the familiar dishes in the gigantic menu. I was not disappointed with the serving size. It was a little salty for my taste. I neutralized with dashes of yogurt sauce. Thank God they did not charge extra (unlike Hossein's). The presentation is neat and chic. We all went home with doggie bags. The meals are good for sharing. Two to three people perhaps. I'm thinking of trying something new on my (or our) next visit. Went to Cyma at Shang on a Saturday morning for lunch; the place wasn’t packed and about 2 waiters and a waitress were hanging out at the door. It took forever to get a menu, even if we asked for one three times! We ordered pasta and a salad with the feta cheese on the side. They served the salad first and after 15 minutes they served the pasta and about 30 minutes later the feta cheese arrived (after we asked for it). We had to constantly ask for iced tea refills. We asked for our check and it took about another 30 minutes to get it, and another 10 minutes to get our doggy bag. The place had 2 empty tables and a staff of about 10+ waiters that all just wanted to hang-out at the kitchen or at the door. The food was good, but with service like that I’d rather eat somewhere else. I would have understood it if the place was packed, but it wasn’t. I was totally disappointed. A far cry from the kind of service we get at their Boracay branch. Is this a franchise? They should get more training. Cyma, Shangri-la Plaza Mall

I must say that being in the culinary industry indeed has it's perks!! I would like to share with you my dining experience last october 10, 2008 at Cyma, Shangri-La Plaza Mall.. I chose this place because it was my friend's (girl) first time to eat here so I suggested it to her & it was our first date.. So last october10, I booked a 7pm reservation at around 12pm & I was surprised to hear that they are fully-booked already.. Not giving up, I asked them if they could put me on the waiting list & I guess luck was on my side that day. They did put me on the waiting list but I was third on the list but I guess it's better that way rather than having no table at all... Anyway, dinnertime came.. My friend (girl) & I arrived at around 7:15pm to 7:30pm and we were greeted by one of their maitre d' hotel (front staff) named Deng.. He then politely guided us to our table and he even introduced us to our server for that night, madonna.. my friend got the blackened gindara & i had the lamb with rice inside a pepper plus we also ordered the roka salata salad and 2house teas.. we were well-taken care of because our waiter even served the salad directly onto our plates.. when both of our food orders came, my friend & i were really surprised because of the serving size of the gindara fish, meaning, the price does not fit the size itself!! i immediately called Deng's attention & explained to him our opinions and after some explanations, we understood the reason why.. After paying the bill, I again called one of their front staff, this time, by the name of Paccino.. I then again shared our dining experience that night & I was surprised to hear that we were getting a free dessert for the evening worth P250!!! at first, I did not believe what he said so I still had it repeated & after hearing it for the second time, i finally said yes.. What a perfect ending to a sumptuous dinner.. To cut the story short, many people may have negative reviews for Cyma Shang but for me, they are the best among the restaurants there at Shangri-La Mall, in-terms of service & caring for their customers.. Never in my entire life was I treated like this in a restaurant, meaning my friend & I were really taken care of by the staff & they really made our night extra special.. So if you happen to be in Shangri-La Mall and you would like to try something new among the chain of restaurants there, I strongly recommend that you chose Cyma because I can very much say that they would really make your dining experience extra-special.. To all the staff of Cyma Shangri-La Mall branch, thank you so much for making my first date extra-special!!! Keep up the good work guys!!! Cyma, Shangri-la Plaza Mall

Your best bet here are the various salads and lamb chops- pretty much what everyone else orders. Probably best to avoid their expensive signature grilled Greek cheese (basically it's kesong putih set on fire) and their sea urchin pasta (which is basically one sea urchin on a bland bed of spaghetti).
Is this place worth the 20-minute wait at mealtimes? Only if you're desperate to be seen there.
