The way I want Japanese food should be-cooked in front of you in the teppanyaki unlike the newer and more popular place now like Terriyaki Boy.This is why I consider Kimpura as my favorite Japanese Resto and the best in town.

Everything from the food to the service is good.Kilala na nga namin ang mga waiter at mga chefs na nagsisilbi sa amin pati na rin yung sa Glorietta 2.Too bad it's gone forever.=(

I'm looking forward to the next time were eating here again.

it is the type of old restaurant that never raise their standard in the midst of competition.

    ATTENTION TO DETAILS.
They served my table with a dried up "soy" stain tea pot.
everything in a restaurant should be clean. no excuse for such.

    SERVICE.
Attentive server is their only saving grace in my dinner experience.
oh, the teppanyaki chef assigned to our table, he did not even say goodbye after he finished cooking.

    AMBIANCE
ambiance ... bad. japanese restaurant playing some 70s torch songs ? another sign that they lost their passion.

    FOOD.
    abominable.

my rib eye (choice grade) was only 200grams. the fat took up almost 30% of the beef surface. i can get a better rib eye in SnR with less fat surface. flavor of the beef was ... ehhh ... i did not detect anything.

gindara ... fish thorn every bite. their kitchen did not even fillet it. for the price they charge, most restaurants would fillet it. the worst part, its over cooked. when i called his attention, he did not even bother to flip my gindara. so the end result was, gindara flavor was over powered by the toasted skin.

beef usuyaki ... over cooked, no taste. i question the teppan chef why is it tasteless, he told me to put soy sauce.

    VALUE:
if a restaurant starts focusing on its business viability and neglect quality ... there is no value to speak of ... is there ?

    CONCLUSION:
WAKE UP. to survive in this business, you need to step up and keep your standards high. from quality of chef to the ingredients.

and finally, if soy sauce is the only thing that will put flavor to your food, then you better have an inventory also of low sodium soy sauce.

Kimpura is still the best teppanyaki restaurant in Manila for me but I find their food too oily and expensive especially if you want to try many dishes.

Easily 800-1000 pesos budget per person.

I ordered Beef Teppanyaki, beef cubes teppanyaki style but got thin slices of beef done like teriyaki and the sauce had too much cornstarch in it. Somehow the menu description of the dish got lost in the kitchen.

The grilled mackerel was too thin and was a little too"fishy" in the belly.

The mixed sashimi wasn't s fresh as I'm used to.

I guess the Kimpura's Japanese cuisine got lost in translation for me.
