Found the place very charming and warm. You definitely feel at home once you enter this small country style cafe.Rating

The menu is very simple and homemade, but the choices of food are not much. The prices are quite reasonable though!
My fiance and I ordered their bestsellers, the Adobo pasta and the Crusted Dory fish fillet. Both were good. The pasta is great for Adobo lovers. The dory fish was very tender and succulent. The servings were just right.
The green salad with vinaigrette wasn't spectacular though and the lemonade tasted artifical or powdery. I wouldn't be that discriminating given their pricing.
I would definitely come back for some comfort food in the near future. Nice place to enjoy great and affordable food with a nice and cozy ambience.

I had the mistake of ordering parmesa crusted fish fillet - simply because I have low tolerance for oil. But my friends had to convince me again (and again) that I should not worry much because they have been using olive oil. But still... it was not a pleasant sight. In fairness, sans the oil, the taste was okay so consider the oil as my personal pet peeve.
The good old salad was okay - again, not wow, but worth taking for the remains of the balanced diet.
I haven't touched on desserts but they look good and in fact, easy to do at home. So if you feel like you want to try something that you can not do at home, you may as well skip.
Coffee - skip. Try somewhere else. - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

And maybe I shouldn't have listened.
They say it's inexpensive. True that the menu prices aren't much but the portion size is small anyway.
Taste? The Adobo Pasta was very good but the others was just ok. The Kielbasa wasn't really that special, neither was the Pork Steak with Mustard Sauce. The Parmesan Crusted White Fish was ok too.
Did I expect too much? Maybe.
Was I happy? Not Really. - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus

this unassuming family run restaurant is a nice place to hangout and have a good meal. i especially liked the parmesan crusted fish (which i suspect is cream dory fillet) - simple and tasty. however the best value item on the menu is the chocolate cake - a huge slab of moist, rich cake that will satisfy 2 -3 diners. the scarlet cake, another house specialty, was a disppointment, taste wise though i.e. after having tasted the chocolate cake first.Rating

the place is not big but thats what gives it a homey warm atmosphere. the last time i ate there, one of the owners, a sweet young lady, went over to say hi and ask about the food. the rest of the family was outside enjoying their bonding moments. service is good and the servers were pretty helpful with their suggestions. parking can be pretty difficult though. - Was this review...? actually, cookbook's not totally out of the way, but it's not somewhere you'd expect to find a restaurant. it's fairly easy to find especially if you're coming from san juan (take p guevarra going to the direction of shaw blvd., then head to luna mencias, go straight. socorro fernandez st where cookbook is located should be the 3rd left corner off luna mencias).
food is not cheap but not expensive: P240 for frutti di mare pasta, P180 for aglio e olio, P90 for cream of squash, P40 for iced tea. price actually reasonable.
ambiance: it's very homey, with standard red checked table cloths, beige walls, polished cement floors with painted leaves. there's an "al fresco" painting on one wall and an awning in the inside of the restaurant - i guess this is an attempt to make it feel like you are dining outside.
this restaurant seats maybe 40-50 people and i think it would make a great place to have a small party if you want a comfy atmosphere and don't want anything too fancy.
now, the food: food was good! the frutti di mare pasta was actually very good. the aglio e olio was a bit dry (i think pasta was over-drained) but nevertheless it still tasted good. the squash soup was very good, too. it's not as thick as cibo's so it doesn't fill you up immediately. it whets your appetite.
pasta serving was generous enough that we didn't have space for dessert. but our verdict is we will definitely return to cookbook! service also good.
worth a try fellow foodies!
ps. went back last week, try the parmesan encrusted fish! it's melt in your mouth good! - Was this review...? Useful | Useless | Bogus
